What was the vision you wanted for your wedding day and how does this reflect you as a couple?
We wanted our day to feel warm and fun, while still being timeless and romantic. A winery on Waiheke Island naturally created that feeling. We wanted good food, good music and beautiful scenery, with our guests feeling welcomed, relaxed and connected. Ultimately, we wanted it to feel like a holiday with our favourite people.
Why was Waiheke Island and Batch Winery the perfect location for your special day?
We attended a friend’s wedding on Waiheke the year before and fell in love with the feeling of being “overseas” without leaving Auckland. It had the destination wedding feeling we always wanted, without the difficulty of traveling further away. Batch Winery had that beautiful Waiheke vineyard elegance, but still felt calm, natural and understated.
Let's talk food and drink! What was the big hit of the day?
The food and drink were all amazing, but the oyster canapés and the tuna and steak at dinner were standout moments for us. Our pavlova “wedding cake” was a unique touch, and the dessert table was a huge hit with guests. We were also so glad we chose two cocktail kegs, which kept everyone happy from cocktail hour well into the night.
Looking back, what was your favourite spot on the property and what ended up being your favourite moment?
Our sunset photos with Jake under the show-stopping big tree out on the hill were incredibly special. It was such a unique and beautiful spot, giving us a quiet moment with just the two of us and our photographer to take everything in and appreciate the incredible view.
