ABOUT BATCH WINERY &
THOMAS WINES

The name Batch Winery reflects our small-batch production, with approximately 30,000 bottles crafted each year.

The Thomas Family

The Thomas family, hailing from Canada, has nurtured a lifelong passion for viticulture and winemaking. They cultivated a small vineyard on Michigan's Sugar Island, dedicating their weekends to this endeavour.

Their quest for the perfect location to produce fine wines led them to Waiheke Island, where they swiftly fell in love with its charm. They purposefully acquired this land, as they aspired to permanently relocate to New Zealand and cultivate the land for future generations to savour. 


The Winery

Our gravity-fed winery showcases semi-translucent micro-cell panels in hues of ruby red and straw yellow, inspired by the colours of wine. Notably, we are proud to house two of the few Charmat tanks in New Zealand, enabling us to be the sole winery on Waiheke Island producing sparkling wine on-site. Batch Winery possesses one of only two bottling systems on the island, capable of processing up to 1,300 bottles per hour. We offer both screw top and cork closures. 

The Thomas Estate Vineyard

 Acquired in 2009, our estate boasts 5.5 hectares of grape land, featuring well-established vines with almost 20 years of history. Three distinct grape varietals thrive on our vineyard: Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Syrah. Situated at an elevation of 200 meters, the Thomas Estate Vineyard stands as the highest vineyard on Waiheke Island. 

Thomas Wines

Our white wines are predominantly fermented in stainless steel tanks, while our Chardonnays undergo barrel fermentation. Most of our red wines are aged in French oak barrels for a period of 12 to 18 months. Batch Winery possesses one of only two bottling systems on the island, capable of processing up to 1,300 bottles per hour, both screw top and cork closures. 


Our Restaurant

Perched at one of the island's peak, our restaurant offers a dining experience with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. The serene, elevated setting invites you to relax and indulge in a remarkable journey of taste and scenery. Our Cellar Door

As you step into our cellar door, you are greeted by the enchanting aroma of oak barrels and barrel room. Located in our winery and restaurant, the cellar door is a haven for wine enthusiasts eager to explore wines that are as diverse and intriguing as the landscape that surrounds them.
